I need new glasses.  I saw these ones and immediately fell in love with them.

They have little fake diamonds!!! (and they’d only cost about $50 with my new health insurance)

Thoughts?

I was at Marks and Spencer looking for a cool new hat.  They only had fancy hats for….. church?  I’m not really sure what they’re for.

Or perhaps not a hat at all!  Maybe a cute little headband thing.

Ok, which one is your favorite?  I like the top greyish hat for fancy occasions, but I like the red and black headband for going out at night.

I had a dream last night that I got a new orange kitten.  I wanted to name it “Scully” but it was a boy cat  (I even check its underside to be sure).

I mean - can’t you see that little kitten being named Scully?

I got signed up for a version of Mass Health - Commonwealth Care.  I can’t get health insurance from school (cause I’m not 3/4 time - I’m only taking 6 credits, and 3/4 time is 7!).  I also can’t get health insurance from Macy’s because I don’t work enough.  Plus, with my internship starting in September, I won’t be able to get a full time job.

Here’s my new health plan:

Monthly Payment:  $0
Going to the doctor:  $0
Copays for medicine:  $1 or $3

With Blue Cross, I was paying $10 every time I went to the doctor, and my meds were $10, $10, and $23 a month.  That is QUITE the difference.  I’ll go from $43 a month to $5.  Holy crap.  Niiiiiiiiice.

I DO work at Macy’s, and so I do pay taxes.  It’s not like I’m getting this health insurance without putting anything IN to the system - cause I am.  And I have been paying taxes for the past 10 years to Massachusetts.  It’s about time I got something back!  Heh.

Brew Fest is THIS Saturday!  If you don’t have your tickets, go to www.beersforgood.com to purchase them online.  They are still only $10 online (although we only get $9.50 - cause PayPal takes some money) - but they go up to $12 at the door.  We realize now that maybe we should have made them $15 at the door to encourage people even more to purchase them ahead of time.

I am VERY excited about my internship, and can’t wait until September (but first, I have to go to England for a month!  Whooo!!!).  Anywho, I realized while I was there that I was going to be on my feet a LOT.  Right now, my “dress shoes” for comfort are my crocs.  They’re a little silly, and not that dressy.  I looked at Macy’s, and found these cute shoes that I’m going to buy the next time they go on sale:

They’re cute, comfortable (they’re Naturalizer!), and they have a bit of a heel, which is good cause some of my pants are a bit too long (I swear, I’m shrinking - and not my waist!).  Because they’re such nice shoes, they’re $79.  Eek.  But luckily, Macy’s has them, and I have not only my 20% discount, but Macy’s also now lets their employees use coupons!  So I can use a 20% coupon on TOP of my discount.  Whooo!!!  That brings them down to $50ish.  That’s still a lot of money, but they’re a good brand, so hopefully they will last for a long time.  Plus, I’ll wear them every week, at least three times a week.

There are these things called FitFlops, that are suppose to work your bum and your legs while you walk in them.  I’d heard about them, and seen them being sold at crazy places like Bath and Body Works.  Never heard of them?  Here are some things they claim:

  • Every step you take in your FitFlops helps tone and trim your legs: Studies at Salford University by Dr. Philip Graham-Smith and Richard Jones have shown that the FitFlop midsole extends the amount of time that the slow twitch* muscles are engaged during each step (by approximately 10-12%). So just by wearing a pair of FitFlops you’ll get more exercise while doing just exactly what you’re normally doing. (*slow twitch muscles produce energy by converting fats into energy aerobically)
  • FitFlops work your bum muscles more. FitFlops have been proven to increase the amount of time that the gluteus maximus muscle is ‘activated’ during every single step.
  • Walking in FitFlops is like walking barefoot, but a little bit better. According to a study done at the University of Salford in Manchester, UK, the FitFlop wearer’s gait is very similar to that of a barefoot walker, but the added cushion provided by the EVA midsole helps reduce joint strain and absorb shock. In fact, several FitFlop wearers have already reported relief from back pain after a few days of wearing them.

Oh yes, these are magical shoes.

On Sunday, I saw that we sold them at Macy*s.

I bought a pair.

I bought these black sparkly ones.

I figure I can wear them out, even out to a bar with a sparkly shirt.  Because they’re sparkly, they’re not as bad as the other ones they make.

I bought them with my Friends and Family 25% discount, which I get in addition to my regular 20% discount.  I also bought an awesome pair of Steve Madden sunglasses.

I know that I shouldn’t be buying things, I KNOW!

BUT - The sunglasses were originally $40, and the FitFlops were $60.  After all my discounts, I ended up paying only $27 for both.

The sunglasses are great, and I have a pair of Steve Maddens that have lasted me at least two seasons now.  Also, I figure I wear flip flops a lot, so why not have a pair that are suppose to be good for you to walk in?  I’m going to be doing a LOT of walking this summer in England, so I figure why the heck not?  I deserve nice things every now and then, and I really haven’t bought anything in a very long time.  Last thing I bought?  A wrap-around sweater at Macy’s for $4 back in mid-March.

Saturday morning we went out to Coggshall to clean up some storm damage.  Coggshall is this very nice large park in Fitchburg (where Megan got married), but because of all the damage, the government Parks people said that we couldn’t open the park because of the damage.  Joel Kaddy organized a clean up on Saturday, and I went with my parents (at 8am!).

Trees were actually ripped out of the earth, and were laying across the street.  The DPW had been in earlier to chainsaw the large trees.

We were suppose to pick up these large branches, and carry them to the side of the road to be picked up.  Everything 30 feet back needed to be cleared.

I got a good slice in my arm that really hurt, and started bleeding.  I didn’t have crappy jeans to wear, so I wore yoga pants.  Bad idea, because the jeans would have protected my legs better.  I also have a big scrape and bruise on my upper thigh.

After cleaning, dad came home and changed to go to the movies with my mom.  Since I wasn’t going out with him, I told him he should add to his look by adding his bright red suspenders.  He thought it was a good idea.

Trevor came over on sunday to help chop firewood out of an old tree that we had taken down.  Trevor banged on the window, and said “If you want to live in a mini house by yourself, you better come outside and learn how to chop firewood!”

You can see this piece of wood nicely breaking in half.

I am currently down in Dartmouth visiting Rob again.  I’m coming every month, so this is my April trip.  In March, we ate a bunch of strawberries and watched a bunch of movies.  Last night we watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was awesome.  Later today we’re going to see Sunshine Cleaning.  He has a blog here.

Since my mom has been walking a lot more, she’s decided that her old shoes hurt her feet. Off Zappos she ordered new shoes one size 8 and one 8.5. She thought the 8s fit, but her toes hurt in the old ones when walking down hill. She couldn’t walk down hill with her new shoes cause she couldn’t get them dirty.

I suggested that she put grocery bags on her feet and to just walk outside. Finally after several days of being unsure, she finally took my advice and we tied bags on her feet and went for a walk up and down the hill near our house.
She lucked out and there was no one around to make fun of her.
I’m making up for that by posting them for all my blog friends.

I was just reading a blog where they said something about a “game” where you post the 4th picture that is in the 4th folder of your picture collection on your computer.  I had to modify it a bit, and do the 4th picture in the 4th folder that was in the fourth folder.  It went 2005>Halloween 05>4th picture.  It was just absolutely too hilarious to not post it.

This is my dad on Halloween.  He and my mom dressed up and stopped by the Halloween party I was having at my apartment. He got this outfit from his uncle Ray.  I’m not sure what it really is, but I think it might have to do with Egypt or some other middle eastern country.

I was getting ready to meet Liz and Trevor about the Brew Fest, when I looked outside and saw an orange nicely placed on my windshield  (I’m hoping it was nicely placed).  The fruit is back! This orange went straight into the compost because I was right next to it.  Plus, it was about 30 odd degrees out, and this orange was probably too cold to be any good to eat (plus I wouldn’t trust it in the first place).

We met at a local business, Advanced Print Technologies to talk about ordering our pint glasses.  We wanted to see what we could get for our money, and what the label would look like on the glass.  For a regular 16 oz. pint glass, we have 3inX3in of space for our label.  With a 16oz glass with a handle, we would only have 2inX1.5in.  Just the difference in label size alone (plus, the one with the handle was $1 more a glass) made us want to stick with a regular pint glass.  The ones with the handles would be cool because they’re different, but it just didn’t seem that it would work out well with our label.  One of the guys at APT comes in to Destare occasionally, so he knew I had an iPhone.  He’s interested in getting one, so I let him play with mine, and showed him how to use it.  I forgot he had taken this picture until I was scrolling in my photo album and was confused at how I had taken a  picture of myself.

Christmas is almost here, and with it, comes Macy*s BIGGEST ONE DAY SALE OF THE YEAR!!!!

Now, Macy*s has sales ALL the time.  Seriously.  There is maybe one day a week where there isn’t some sort of sale going on.  But, I know from working at Macy’s for so long, that you will find the absolute best prices at Macy*s during a One Day Sale (ODS).  Things are just cheaper then.  It’s the best time to buy.  So obviously, with the BIGGEST ODS of the year, things are going to be cheap.  I got to work an hour early, cause I had done some other shopping at Kohl’s and Target (and by shopping, I exchanged a sweater at Kohl’s.  I had bought a striped one-I love stripes-but hadn’t worn it yet.  I lost my receipt, so I exchanged it for a black one that I can wear to Macy*s).  Then I wandered around Target, but didn’t find anything.  Once I got to Macy*s, I saw all the rediculously priced merchandise.  All of the clearance racks were $4.99 or 75% off.  I just had bought a bunch of sweaters that were $8 for me after discount (they were 50% off at the time), but now they were on sale for $4 (after discount).  I did price adjustments on two of them (so I got $8 back), and bought two more.  I’m not sure if I should keep them (do I need them?), but they’re $4 sweaters!!!!!  I also returned some things that didn’t fit - a wicked awesome sweater in the Misses department that was a Small, but still too big.  This lady obviously has it clipped in the back, because there is no way that is how a small looks on her.   But anyway, things were super cheap, and I went a little crazy.  Well…. I bought two more of the sweaters I had already bought.  One in light grey, and one in grey and blue striped.  They’re long cardigans, so they can be worn on top of other shirts, and light enough to be worn in the summer.  Perhaps I’ll change my mind and return them… but right now, they’re $4 sweaters!  This should motivate me to clean out my closet, and throw away things I don’t wear.

There were two wonderful things about Election Day yesterday.  First, we elected a wonderful new president.  I have absolutely great, high intentions about Barack Obama.  Last night, I asked Niles, “Wow, I wonder what the next four years are going to be like.”  One of the people on my buddy list has an AIM away message that says “Ugh, get ready for $5 gallon of gas.”  I’m okay with that.  In Europe, they pay $6-$7 for gas (Megan, is that about right?).  And they walk a lot.  A LOT.  And they use public transportation.  We should be more like that.  I am okay with $5 gallon of gas.  I bought gas on October 8th, and paid $34.  I have not gotten gas since then, and it is November 5th.  If I hadn’t had to go get Dylan (damn him!), I would be able to go a lot longer without having to get gas.  Another friend of mine has a message that says “I’m moving to Europe.”  Ok, first of all, I think they are MORE liberal and more anti-Bush/McCain than we are here!  What good is that going to do?  And there, you will definitely pay more for gas.  Wow, these people are morons.  They’re all people I went to FSC with a long time ago.  I think their comments alone are reason enough to take them off my buddy list.  Plus, I haven’t talked to them in years.

The second wonderful thing about Election Day, was the ALL DAY marathon of House, M.D on the USA network (USA!  USA!).  ALL day long.  It was absolutely wonderful.  I watched 3-4 episodes yesterday, and taped 4 more when I left for work.  I would have taped more, but I was worried that I would run out of room on the DVR.  I was really surprised at how many episodes there were that I had never seen.

Oh, and that tree atop the new Fitchburg State building?  I guess it’s something called a “tree topping ceremony.”  It’s normal to do that for new buildings, I guess.   According to Google, the tree topping ceremony follows from an old pagan ritual to honor/appease tree gods for providing the building material for construction. Pagan ritual!!!  Awesome.  So it’s not a “Christmas” tree, but really, it is.  Well, it’s the same kind of tree as a Christmas tree is.  Balsam Fir?

In other awesome news, I just saw an ad for The Snuggie!!!  The blanket with sleeves!  (Warning, the link opens up a video).  Now, I have my own blanket with sleeves that I got last year as I was recovering from my surgery.  It was awesome, and I waddled around the house in it.  But it was not as awesome as the Snuggie.  However, mine looks thicker.  But the Snuggie has a built in turtle neck!  I want one.  Sersiouly.  If they had  a black one (cause black is more chic), I would wear it out of the house, too.  Throw on my fake pearl necklace, and my fake Ugg boots, and I’d be a fashionista!  Oh yeah, I’d do it.  Too bad they don’t come in black.  Curses!

On my 24th birthday, I got my ear pierced.  I added another cartilage piercing to my right ear.  I already had a cartilage piercing, and three other holes.  Five total earrings.

Unfortunately, the final piercing has not done very well.  It’s the one way up at the top, and it presses onto my head when I sleep.  It’s actually quite a pain in the ass, and makes me move about so I’m not lying with my ear pressed against the pillow.

It’s also gotten itself a keloid on the back.  And it hurts.  It’s been over three months since it’s been pierced, so it shouldn’t still hurt.

And thus, I have decided to remove it, and hope that it stops hurting.  But as I look at that picture, it makes me want to put it back in.  But oh the pain!!!  I have to weigh cuteness, and pain.  Cuteness and pain.  *scratches head*
