Yoplait Yogurt.
They have this stupid “Save a lid, save a life” campaign. For every yogurt lid you mail in to them, they donate $.10 cents to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer charity.
This pisses me off. They don’t really want to donate money, so they making the consumer work for it. The consumer has to clean off their lid, save them up, put them in a bag (which is a waste of plastic), and then mail them in to the company, using their own stamp. This is a waste of multiple resources: envelope, bag, water to rinse off the lid, and money used for the stamp.
Instead, Yoplait should just say “For every yogurt you purchase, we will donate $.10.” That cuts out all the stupid work, which is absolutely pointless. Someone has the job of opening up these envelopes, counting the lids, and then probably throwing them away. That’s the stupidiest thing I’ve ever heard.
It also really makes me think about how Yoplait is being all sneaky. They want you to think that they’re this great company who really wants to help out women, and this terrible cancer. Bull crap. They want to make this extremely difficult and hard for people, so that people won’t send in any lids. Who’s going to take the time to do that?
Yoplait, if you want to help our the Susan G Komen charity, just give them their freaking money. Don’t make people work for it, that’s just cheap.
And that’s why I don’t buy Yoplait Yogurt.
The Organic Cow organic milk does a similar thing. You purchase a milk carton, and then when you’re done with it, you clip off the top of the carton, and send it in. Their plan is called “Clip for a clean New England.” This product I actually do buy, because at the grocery store, my two organic milk options are from either The Organic Cow or Stoneyfield Farm. We bought the Organic Cow recently cause it was on sale ($2.99 a half gallon). I buy it, but I do NOT clip off the top and mail it in. For every ten cartons of milk I buy, I can write my own check out for $1.00 to the charity of my choice.
If you want to donate money as a business, fine. Donate money. Don’t be sneaky about it, and make people waste their time and their resources.
