I filled up my gas tank for $18 today, it was $1.89 a gallon.  That just doesn’t seem right.  My dad came into Destare Thursday night, and said that for the average person who doesn’t have stocks, things are pretty good.  Gas prices are down, things in store are on sale  super cheap (to get people in to buy stuff), houses are cheap if you’re looking…. things aren’t bad at all!  The whole stock market free fall isn’t affecting me at all, and the whole change in the economy isn’t really affecting my family at all.  Because of the problems with the city’s budget, my mom was forced to go down to part time, leaving her with half her salary.  That sucks, but we’re not really living any differently.  My mom just occasionally says “We don’t have the money for that,” but it’s always for extravagant things like redoing the kitchen floor.  Nothing else has changed.

I’m kind of bummed out that gas prices went down again.  It was nice to hear that SUVs weren’t selling, and that people were actually doing something about driving so much.  Now that gas is the cheapest it’s been in 5 years (I heard that somewhere), people are going to go nuts again driving again.  Sure, it’s nice on my wallet, but I didn’t really mind $4 gas.
